Creation

We are the creators, of a world economics, of global warming, of mobile phones, telecomunications and I pods. We have created enormous wealth, for a few, and widespread poverty. We have created a transport system where nowhere on the planet is not reachable in a day, the same transport system that is spewing all the carbon from earth into our athmosphere. We are creating a global economy based on ownership of land and a “sub prime” section of borrowing that can catapult our creation into a recession. Clever smart human beings that we are.

All the while the beauty and magnificence of the real creation is slipping by unoticed or taken for granted. Time to wake up to our place in time and space and start appreciating where we are and climbing down from our arrogant self made ivory tower and give some credence to the real creator.

Being happy

The closer I get to being true to myself the more happiness I experience. Seeking the truth about myself has been a lifelong journey. But I have a very clear memory that this truth, the truth I seek, I actually experienced at the beginning of my life. This, I was reminded of when my little grandson was born and he started to experience his own life. The joy and happiness that he feels is so tangible and is given out so freely by him it is wonderful being with him. So this truth of our real selves is not far away, not even a heartbeat away.

We forget so easily. Even the very action of seeking takes us away from the truth within.

Time to remember. Being. Just being.

Being a Palestinian Muslim

Not a good birthright to inherit in this present time. Very little right to exist at all, be it as a state or as an individual. The fathers of those living there now woke up to find that a new state had been created and their lot was of the dispossessed. This new state’s borders were drawn by the formerly dispossessed Jews, who had barely survived the holocaust, with the help of the victors in the fight against nazism.

From then till now this new state and its allies have continued to ignore the rights of the palestinians. The wall that divided east and west has been replaced by an even bigger wall cutting an ugly swathe through this troubled land. Things have got so bad that a democratically elected Hamas has been actively sabotaged by the western democracies to the point of creating a civil war where Palestinian is fighting Palestinian.

There is a massive injustice being perpetrated in Palestine and on its suffering people and until the west actively sets about righting the wrongs this region will be the focal point of major unrest all over the planet.

Being an Israeli Jew

The difference between just being and being an Israeli Jew, is a very strong attachment to a culture and a land bestowed by God. Its the unarguable right to dwell on that land that is enshrined in the holy book written and handed down from God to Abraham, Moses and all the prophets of that book. This same God of Abraham is the same God of Jesus and Mohammed. But being an Israeli Jew includes the point of view of divine rights to live on that land and excludes the rights of Palestinian Muslims to live on that same land. What chance of reason and peace to come about in that troubled land when such entrenched views are held?

But, wait. look at what has just happened in Northern Ireland. Paisley and McGuiness sharing power. Its not so long ago that hope was growing and peace was on the way in Palestine and Israel. Rabin and Arafat shaking hands in camp David. Rabin suffered the same fate as another man of peace before him, Ghandi. It is time again for the peace loving Israeli Jew to stand up and be heard again. the days of the extremists are drawing to a close.

Being a Northern Irish Nationalist Catholic

Quite a mouthful of labeling there and of course there is the opposite being, a Nortern Irish Loyalist protestant. But where you are born, who you are born to, and the time you are born into determines what labels, attachments and baggage you are destined to carry with you for the lifetime you live here. All of 398 years ago during the early days of Reformation Christianity and rebellion in Ireland against the English Crown, a plantation of land granted by an insecure protestant James 1st to Scottish protestants loyal to him sowed the seeds of the division betwwen the peoples of that small piece of planet earth. Many countless thousands have lived fought and died in the cause of one side or the other over the intervening centuries.

This week we saw the leaders of both sides sitting down together to talk about a future together. Took a while to see the bigger picture.

The strongest attachment that we seem to carry is, who owns the land? This has been at the heart of nearly all human conflict since we, as humans existed here. As I said before the error in our thinking that we own the planet is fundamental to our missing the bigger picture, the chance to live in peace and true freedom appreciating our place in time and space.

Being

Happy new year, 2007 whats does it hold for us? I had the great fortune in July 2006 to become a grandad, a very happy moment in my life and a chance to get to know this little being that had appeared in my orbit of living. He has reminded me of the love we all have inside, the innocence and the openess, the helplessness and the dependacy.

He was one of millions born last year, all the same in that they are all human beings.

Under the influence and guidance of the fathers, grandfathers, mothers and grandmothers the little infant will soon become a part of the culture of the people they were born into and that innocence and love that they had naturally will become attached and dependent on that culture. There is good in cultures but not in the attachment.

The great potential of every human being born is lost and diluted within half a generation. Religion and country are instilled as essentials, when in fact with wisdom and non attachnent the child would grow up in a vastly different world.

I am hopeful that more wisdom will become common and “my” little one will stay laughing and remain happy.

Back again

So here I am back again, I know I was missed so i will try and get back up to speed and find some more inspiration. the important thing is that ideas of unity are put out there. Because of the rich diversity of creation and how we have evolved with our great cultural divides, the unity is easily lost, to the point of most of us believing, very strongly, that no way does unity exist.

Back on track and with a fresher looking blog site, thanks to my good friend JD, feel free to leave some comments. We have managed to block all the junk that infests cyberspace.

Who Would Jesus Bomb? 27/11/2005

A car sticker on Jackson Browns rear bumper sums up a lot of the common sense and humanity that I have been banging on about. It was good to see that giant Russian helicopter high up in Kashmir bringing in food, blankets and tents before the onset of the winter, that will still add to the death toll. We had the means but we did not use them anywhere close to the need. Why? There is still widespread suffering in Niger, Daifur and even in New Orleans. Politically these ares are not worth it, New Orleans has fallen off the front page, and so is not such a priority as it was. Priorities are sorted in terms of vested interest, whats in it for me. Iraq is a prime example of vested interests at work. Not only is there vast wealth in terms of oil, but also it was used as a political token of revenge for 9/11, motivated by a nationalist right wing Christian agenda.

The message at the core of Christianity, forgiveness and love, does not have any vested interests. So what profit is there in that kind of thinking.

Who would Mohammed bomb is an equally valid question. In the Koran He speaks of love and forgiveness and I think I would be right in thinking that this would be the same love. None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself and the same for our sisters. Wishing others well is akin to prayer.

Trust in your own good intentions but judge yourself and be humble. Don’t judge others and thus limit your love. Be big hearted, forgive.

There is an extremists agenda on that side too, who have nothing to contribute to the common good and who also do not listen to the truth at the core of their religion. Extremists on both sides. When there are no sides there are no extremes, when there are no extremes there are no sides. Give peace a chance.
